CHESHAM United will host Slough Town on Saturday for a place in the Southern Premier League after they beat Burnham 1-0 in their play-off semi-final last night.

Fireman Sam Ledger volleyed in the winner with 12 minutes left to deservedly book a home final against Slough Town. on Saturday.

United get home advantage because they finished higher in the league than Slough ,who beat Hitchin 2-1 in the other semi-final last night.

Chesham were good value for their win as they tactically outwitted a Burnham side who finished the regular season seven points clear of the Generals and beat them twice.

But United took the game to their hosts and it would have been a travesty if they hadn't triumphed.

Their five-man midfield stopped Burnham playing while John Frendo worked like a Trojan up front on his own.

The formation nullified Burnham and with Steve Obeng surperb in the midfield, United always had the upper hand.

Obeng rattled the crossbar and Steve Wales should have done better when he pounced on a poor Will Dunlop headed backpass but was foiled by a last-ditch stop by home keeper Paul McCarthy.

United finally got their breakthrough on 78 minutes when defender Ledger hooked a looping ball into the back of the net before celebrating wildly with the travelling fans.

The expected onslaught from Burnham never materialised, and Chesham comfortably held on to claim their place in Saturday's winner-takes-all final.
