HIGH Wycombe’s Matt Wilson reached the final of the latest leg of the Cuestars South of England Championship Tour last weekend in Salisbury.

He was beaten 3-1 in the final by Swindon’s in-form semi-professional Neil Craycraft, but the ranking points gained mean that Wilson cannot be caught at the top of the season’s ranking list.

Wilson started the day as he ended - with a defeat against Craycraft in the group stages. But wins over Swindon’s Seb Worrall and Basingstoke’s Trevor Thorn were enough to qualify for the knockout phase, highlighted by breaks of 95, 82 and 63.

In the quarter-final Wilson chalked up a run of 100 exactly to seal a 3-0 win over Chandler’s Ford’s Mark McLean. Alex Dunkley, who beat Wilson in the semi-final of the previous event in Swindon, was despatched in the semi-final with the aid of a break of 73 but there was to be no fairytale ending as Craycraft deservedly took the winners prize.

After the final event in Swindon on May 16th the Top 16 in the rankings will play-off in June to be crowned 2010 South of England Champion.
