MARLOW golfer Tyrrell Hatton is preparing for the tournament of his life after qualifying for the Open Championship at St Andrews.

At just 18, Hatton will be the youngest player in a field comprising Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and just about everyone else at the top of world golf.

He said: “I’m over the moon. As an amateur, qualifying and making it to St Andrews is like being in a dream world. I can’t put it into words.”

Hatton was one of just 12 qualifiers from almost 300 hopefuls after shooting rounds of four under and two under at Ladybank GC in Scotland.

Hatton, who had never tried to qualify for the Open before now, will fly up to Scotland on Saturday night before playing his first ever round at the most famous course in golf the following day.

The draw for the Open takes place on Monday.

He said: “Tom Watson is a legend so it would pretty special to play with him.
