Farnborough 2, Wycombe 4.

WANDERERS took their tally to 28 goals from nine pre-season games with a comfortable victory over Blue Square South Side Farnborough this afternoon.

They followed up Thursday's 5-1 win over Chelsea with another scoring spree.

Among their scorers was England U19 international Matt Phillips who was being watched by two scouts from League One title favourites Southampton.

He was joined on the scoresheet by Kevin Betsy, Ben Strevens and Jon-Paul Pittman.

Wanderers' footballing ability wasn't in doubt after their amazing midweek exploits.

But after sticking five past a Chelsea X1, the Blues needed to show that they could scrap, fight and wrestle it out as well against teams that make it their business to hassle teams out of their stride and make life as uncomfortable as they can.

The expected tough test became a lot easier after just three minutes when Blues found the back of the net again with a Betsy penalty.

Strevens didn't even bother to appeal for it when he landed on his backside but Betsy accepted the gift to give Wanderers the perfect start.

However within seconds former Chalfont St Peter striker Bradley Bubb might have levelled but the striker, who was watched by Leeds last season, drilled his shot just wide.

Wanderers doubled their lead on 20 minutes through Strevens who was first to react when Betsy's ferocious volley was only parried by Boro keeper Michael Jordan.

But just when it was beginning to look like a walk in the park for Gary Waddock's men, the Blue Square South side halved the deficit with a goal of the highest quality.

Dale Binns got the better of new signing Marvin McCoy before cutting the ball back into Bubb's path and the ex-Chalfont and Beaconsfield Sycob man produced a drag back to buy himself time before burying the ball in the back of Steve Arnold's net.

As expected Waddock rang the changes at half time with five substiturions and his team began the second half on top with one of the five Kieran Murtagh fizzing a drive just over the top.

Wycombe's passing wasn't as crisp as it was against Chelsea and when Murtagh gave it away in midfield, Bubb belted the ball over the bar.

Wanderers took the warning and extended their lead on 54 minutes through their England U19 international Phillips.

In front of the Southampton scouts, Phillips had had a quiet afternoon until then.

But he showed his class when a defender misjudged Dan Fitchet's cross, leaving him free on the back post where he took a touch before picking his spot.

Three minutes later and the lead was extended to 4-1 as Pittman added his name to the scoresheet, profiting from some clever play from Murtagh before producing another composed one-on-one finish to add to the four-minute hat-trick he got against Chelsea in midweek.

Wycombe continued to make changes and as the game was disrupted Boro took advantage.

Anthony Thomas ran at substitute right back Stuart Green before lifting his shot over Blues glovesman Arnold.

In injury time Wycombe looked like having the last word but Fitchet's shot came back off the woodwork.
