WANDERERS boss Gary Waddock has already named his team for tomorrow’s League Two curtain-raiser at home to Morecambe and is hoping his team will be just as quick out of the blocks as Blues look to get their season off to a flier.

He broke with his normal tradition by naming his team 48 hours ahead of the eagerly-awaited first-day clash.

He said: “I know the team and they know who is playing because, I felt that on this occasion, they needed to know early.

“It’s been a very tough decision who to pick and it has caused me real problems because everyone deserves to start after the way they have performed in pre-season.

“But I can only pick 11 and the team that starts on Saturday won’t necessarily be the team that starts the next game.”

The Free Press can reveal that one of Waddock’s three hot-shot strikers Scott Rendell, Ben Strevens and Jon-Paul Pittman was left disappointed by yesterday’s team selection with Waddock sticking with the two up top philosophy that has served him so well in pre-season.

Waddock said: “It’s been a very tough decision with the strikers because all three should start but I’m not going to start with three.

“I’ve spoken to them all and it is up to them to battle it out between them and Stuart Beavon as well when he returns to fitness.”

Beavon and left back Andy Sandell are the only men left in Blues’ treatment room which means Wanderers will start the campaign without a recognised left back.

Midfielder Ian Westlake has been regularly deployed as an emergency left back this summer but new signing Danny Foster has already filled in there.

In contrast to Wycombe, Morecambe have had a torrid pre-season culminating in a 5-0 defeat against Conference side Barrow.

They have had to play their home matches behind closed doors on university pitches and been forced to cancel high profile home games against Manchester City, Bolton and Preston because their new Globe Arena stadium wasn’t completed in time.

And while that has meant problems for Shrimpers boss Sammy McIlroy it has also presented problems for Waddock.

The Blues chief said: “We haven’t been able to see as much of them as we would have liked because they have been playing behind closed doors.”

But Waddock says pre-season results and form will go out of the window come 3pm tomorrow.

He said: “It counts for nothing.”
