SCOTT Rendell still thinks he’ll break the 20-goal barrier before the end of the season despite admitting he’s been disappointed with his recent form.

He took his season’s tally to 14 after bagging a brace at Morecambe on Saturday – his first goals for seven games.

The 24-year-old has never hit 20 in a season before but is feeling confident he’ll reach his target with eight games left of the season.

He said: “I have never not thought I’d get there. I haven’t scored for a little while but I know if I get in the right place at the right time it’s easily done.

“We’ve got eight games left now so I need to get six in eight, which I can do. What’s to say I can’t score two or three next week?

“I have been disappointed with the lack of goals I have scored in the last two or three weeks but today I came back and walked away with two.”

Rendell is Wanderers’ first choice penalty taker and his first goal at Morecambe came from the spot.

He said: “I look forward to the challenge every week. It’s what I was brought here for.

“I’m top scorer, I know some of them have been penalties, but they all count at the end of the season. If I can keep on scoring another four, five, even six this season it will be fantastic but the main aim is to get promoted.”
