BEACONSFIELD High School’s Becca Croft took bronze at the Home Countries International in Northern Ireland on Saturday.

The 13-year-old finished third in the race in Antrim in her first international appearance.

She was part of the winning England team that completely dominated against the top schoolgirl runners from Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland.

She qualified for the race by finishing third at last week’s English Schools Championships and Saturday’s race was an almost exact repeat.

Croft immediately shot to the front and pushed the pace over the very flat, dry Greemount College course as the top three girls from the English Schools Championships broke away from the main pack. Yorkshire’s Bronwen Owen eventually pulled away for a four second victory over Surrey’s Katie Shield-Rankin and Croft, who finished second and third in the exact time of 11m34s over 3,300 metres.
