CHESHAM United captain Danny Talbot has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club next season.

The 27-year-old midfielder has missed just two matches this season as the Generals chase a second successive promotion, and has played 190 games for the club since his August 2007 debut.

Chairman Alan Calder said: "I am delighted that Danny has agreed to commit to the club and continue on the journey we have set out on.

“He has been an excellent captain of the club and I think it is important that we are starting to look towards next season and beyond as we build on the fantastic achievements of the team so far.”

"With Danny's commitment and Dave Fotheringham last week making his 300th appearance, we are really beginning to see the benefits of being a decent, honest and well-run club that encourages loyalty and longevity."

Manager Andy Leese is already planning for next season and wants to give his current crop of players the chance to prove themselves should they go up for the second season running.

He said: “We are trying to retain the consistency and quality within the squad, and getting the club captain on board will be a catalyst for others to stay and build on the last two seasons’ progress.

“Dan has been around me as a player for over five years now, and he shows great consistency in his performances as well as a dedication to the game which is second to none. He has been a good leader on and off the field, and his standards and work ethic reflect what we want as a management team.

“We are working to get other players committed to the club, which will give us that continuity into next season, at whatever level we are playing.”

Talbot will be hoping to lead his side into the final of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup tomorrow night when Chesham take on Wycombe Wanderers at Burnham tomorrow night. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
