A LATE goal from recent signing Bedel Guei kept Chalfont St Peter’s winning run going as they close in on the title.

The midfielder struck six minutes from time against Hillingdon Borough on Saturday to give Saints their fifth 1-0 win in six games and put them within touching distance of the title.

With eight games remaining they sit 12 points clear of second-placed London Colney, having played two matches fewer.

Saints were given a helping hand by Bucks rivals Holmer Green, who thumped nearest rivals Tring Athletic 3-0 to drop to third in the table.

Chalfont can extend their lead at the top with victory over Kentish Town tonight.

They are hoping to get into the Southern League Central Division – a league Beaconsfield SYCOB are losing their battle to stay in.

They lost 2-1 at Biggleswade Town to stay firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

Brett Donnelly scored both goals for Biggleswade, netting the winner seconds after the half-time break. Adam Bernard had earlier equalised for Beaconsfield, who twice had shots kicked off the line.

SYCOB’s cause wasn’t helped by the news relegation rivals Barton Rovers thumped Marlow 5-0 at Oak Tree Road.

Blues were already four goals behind at the break in an embarrassing defeat. They are at home to Biggleswade this evening.
