ANDY Leese says his Chesham United team are finally starting to put in the performances to go alongside the results that have taken them into the play-off places.

A 4-0 win over Bedford Town made it six unbeaten in the league and pushed the Generals up to fourth in the table.

That followed a 5-0 thumping of Horsham in the FA Trophy and Chesham made it three wins in a row in all competitions on Tuesday night when they beat Slough Town in the League Cup.

United have struggled to pick up wins away from home this season but the last two victories came away from The Meadow.

Leese said he wasn't worried about the lack of away wins though, with Chesham having been victorious in eight of their 13 league matches so far this season.

He said: "It might be a concern for others. I don't look at it that way. I look at the trends and the signs have been there. We are starting to play well again.

"We weren't playing well five or six games ago but in the last three or four games we've been playing well.

"It's tight at the top and I think it will stay that way."

Steve Wales scored twice and James Potton and Brad Wadkins were also on target as United convincingly beat ten man Bedford on Saturday.

Leese said: "We pretty much picked up where we left off against Horsham. It was as good a performance we've had since pre-season. In and out of possession at Bedford we were very good. I was delighted, especially with a clean sheet which is always a bonus."

Three days later a Simon Thomas penalty wrapped things up against Slough after an own goal had given Chesham the lead.

Leese said: "They were at full strength and are top of their league. It was a good game and I was really pleased with the response of the players."

It's back to cup action for Chesham this week as they host Tiverton on Saturday in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy before they play Didcot in the Berks and Bucks Cup.

Leese said: "We have a bit of a break from the league and we're determined to do well in all of the cups. Saturday is the one that brings that bit of prestige and extra finance.

"Tiverton are regrouping. They went down last year and have kept the nucleus of the side they had and they've better with that continuity. We won't underestimate them but we're at home, which is a big plus."

Chesham return to league action Saturday week when they host Cirencester in a rearranged game.

The match was originally due to take place on January 2 but with United's scheduled opponents Oxford City in FA Cup action the game has been brought forward.

The sides have already met this season, drawing 1-1 in Gloucestershire on August Bank Holiday Monday.
