BILLY Vunipola wants to follow the example set by some of his Wasps team-mates and use the Junior World Cup as a springboard to success.

The powerful back row was a late call up to the England squad which flew out to South Africa last Tuesday, but says Wasps pals Christian Wade, Sam Jones, Elliot Daly and Joe Launchbury have shown what a good tournament can lead to.

All four helped England to the final at the last World Cup, when Wade finished joint top try-scorer, and club and senior international recognition has quickly followed.

Vunipola said: “I’ve seen those guys all perform really well for the U20 side last year and then go on to make a mark in the Premiership this season.

“The Junior World Championship is obviously a big stage and it is one that I am really looking forward to performing on if I am given the chance.”

“The precedent is there for us guys. Christian and Joe, as well as other guys like George Ford, have shown us that if you perform well for the U20 side people sit up and take notice. That is a massive incentive.”

England U20 play Italy on June 4, Ireland on June 8 and South Africa on June 12.
