Wanderers forward Craig Mackail-Smith hailed his team-mates as he scored the second league hat-trick of his illustrious career on Saturday against Crawley.

Mackail-Smith scored three glorious goals in the space of 11 second half minutes at Adams Park as Wycombe ran riot.

After the game, the former Peterborough striker had his matchball signed by all the players and said: "Ebere Eze got the ball rolling and he has been fantastic for us and he came up with another bit of magic which set us up.

"That gave us the momentum and the push we needed and then all of a sudden I got three chances in quick succession and I didn't have to think about them.

"They just came to me and I put them on target and it was great to see all three hit the back of the net."

When asked what his favourite goal of the trio was, he explained: "The last one was my favourite.

"I had a bit of time to think about what I needed to do and sometimes I overthink these things and I felt confident to take a touch and put it in the near post so I was really pleased with that one."

Two of Mackail-Smith's goals were laid on by Adebayo Akinfenwa and although 'The Beast' has been in fine goalscoring form this season, Mackail-Smith praised his performance against Crawley.

"He is a massive focal point for us," added Macca.

"We look to him in the way we play and he comes up trumps and I know he will give me that space.

"We are all complimenting each other really well and there is real competition in the squad."

With the Morecambe defeat still fresh in the mind, Mackail-Smith added that the team were determined to bounce back in this game.

He commented: "The dressing room was a horrible place to be after that game. We knew we had to put in a strong performance, keep a clean sheet and show the attacking threat we have in the team and for the 90 minutes here we were fantastic.

"Now we have Accrington and with this performance we have given ourselves a good platform into that game.

"It isn't ideal to travel there on a Tuesday but with a win and a clean sheet gives us the positivity that we need to go there."
