Badminton Wycombe is celebrating after hearing news of the selection of three of its members to represent England.

The three players, David Jones, 19, Abigail Holden, 18 and Freya Patel-Redfern, 17, will represent England in the forthcoming European Team Championships to be held in Kazan, Russia, from February 13 to 18. All three had previously represented England at junior level, but this is their first call up to senior international status.

David, Abigail and Freya have been members of the England Performance Training group based at Wycombe Badminton Centre in Crest Road, Cressex, since the trio were in their early teens.

“This is an historic day for Badminton Wycombe,” said centre manager Alistair Jones, father of David. “We have had a few international call ups in the 30 years of the existence of Wycombe Badminton Centre, but never have we had three of our players selected at the same time.”

The coaching team of George Bevan, Gary Fox and Daryl Jacobs were equally elated at the news of the selections.

Head coach George said: “It’s very fulfilling to see such young prospects being selected as internationals. They have been working relentlessly towards their objective, pushing each other to develop the skills at international level.”
