Alex Hales' brilliant 47 in 24 balls was in vain as England fell short by 12 runs in their T20 international against New Zealand in Wellington.
The former Chesham Grammar School pupil smashed five fours and three sixes as England looked set to chase down a target of 197 in 20 overs.
However, when Hales was out off the bowling of Ish Sodhi, England stuttered to 184/9 and in turn suffered their third T20 international defeat in a row.
The defeat means England are now struggling to qualify for the tri-series final, also involving Australia, who are top of the table.
After this series, Hales will be involved in five one-day internationals against the Black Caps.
