Goals from Daniel Kanu and Darius Lipsiuc gave Notts County a morale-boosting 2-0 win over 10-man Sheffield Wednesday at Meadow Lane.

Kanu struck with a penalty seven minutes before the break after picking himself up from a foul by substitute Gabriel Otegbayo.

Nine minutes from time, Lipsiuc then confidently finished past Ashley Maynard-Brewer after being left in acres of space by Rory Finneran’s fine pass.

The Owls’ evening had become even worse in between, as Jamal Lowe saw red for a lunge on Jacob Bedeau shortly after half-time.

The result saw Martin Paterson’s Magpies keep a clean sheet for the first time this season, and they were dominant throughout.

Finneran fired a free-kick only inches over the bar, before Conor Grant chipped just wide after being masterfully put through by Nick Tsaroulla.

Tsaroulla was the architect again as he teed up Scott Robertson for a blocked shot, while Kanu forced a close-range save from Maynard-Brewer.

Wednesday struggled to fashion much, and their only real chance came when Harry Gray shot comfortably wide before half-time.
