The Mighty Boosh and Great British Bake Off star Noel Fielding is among the alumni of a Bucks school of art and design currently showcasing the creativity of its students.

Noel Fielding studied for a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Advertising at Bucks New University in the early 1990s, back when it was called Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College.

Speaking to the Bucks Free Press in 2011, he described his time in Wycombe as “brilliant”, adding: “You need art schools. You have to have places where kids who maybe didn’t get the grades can showcase their abilities.”

Noel and fellow The Mighty Boosh creator Dave Brown met at the university and lived together in student digs on Hughenden Road.

They also joined creative forces with fellow troupe member Julian Barratt after watching his stand-up performance at the Hellfire Comedy Club.

Buckinghamshire New University's summer Graduate Design Show is currently on display at its High Wycombe campus and includes exhibits of fashion design, photography, interior design and creative advertising.

Third-year student Megan Hughes, who is set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, created a booklet entitled ‘Balcony Bliss: The Benefits of Growing Plants in Small Spaces’, featuring diagrams and illustrations guiding readers to attend to their mental health by getting their hands in the dirt.

Megan said: “This show signifies both the end of our time at university and the start of the rest of our lives. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the work we have produced and show off the skills we have learnt.

“It’s incredibly exciting to know that our work is going to be on display and seen by so many people.”

Professor SriKartini Leet said the annual event was a source of pride for Buckinghamshire New University, adding: “It represents not just a culmination of all the hard work our students have put into their creative practice, and the unwavering support their tutors have dedicated to them, but it is also an amazing celebration of their achievement and well-deserved success!”

The graduate showcase is open to members of the public from Monday, June 19 to Wednesday, June 21 between 10am and 2pm and 5pm and 7pm.
