Thousands of handmade poppies have been placed on fences near Higginson Park and All Saints Church to remember fallen war heroes.

Organised by Marlow Poppies, around 5,000 crotched flowers have been made and have been displayed in the town.

The group will also being honouring the local servicemen and women who gave their lives by leaving 300 crocheted poppies along the High Street over the first ten days of November for people to find and wear.

Each will be dedicated to a local serviceman or woman who never returned from war.

Purple poppies have also been displayed to remember animals that have also been victims of war.

The group has set up a Just Giving with many donating after finding one the group’s poppies in the town.

Natalie White wrote: “Finding a poppy this morning absolutely made my day.

“They are beautiful and I feel very honoured.

“I shall most certainly be wearing it in remembrance of Philip Barker.”

Jakki Hill added: “Thank you for making a beautiful poppy for me to find and wear, in honour of George Fearnley-Whittingstall

Sam Coombs said: “I will wear the poppy, that I was delighted to find this morning, with pride in honour of Sidney Tubb.

“Thank you to the lovely team who made these poppies.”

A Marlow Poppies social media post said: “The poppy display is now up on the park and church railings along The Causeway.

“There are 5000 handmade poppies by local ladies.

“Please come and have a look and join us in honouring all our local servicemen and servicewomen who gave their life protecting our town.

“A huge thank you to all the ladies (and some partners) who helped with the display this morning and to Burgers who offered us all a very welcomed drink.”

Marlow Town Council has also released details about this

year’s Remembrance Day parade and service.

The service will start at 10.45am on November 13.

The parade will leave from the Royal British Legion Headquarters at 10.35am and arrive at the Memorial on the Causeway for the beginning of the service.

Deputy Lieutenant Air Vice Marshall Chris Elliot will be

taking the Salute this year.

The High Street, Marlow Bridge, Station Road, and Station Approach will be closed to all traffic from 8am.

No parking will be permitted on the High Street and Causeway from 8am.

Once the parade and service has finished the High Street and the bridge will be opened up.
