Police officers who were at the scene of a crossbow shooting have been commended for their "swift and brave actions."

Thames Valley Police Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber stated his appreciation for the police response.

In a statement he said: "I am grateful for the swift and brave actions of the police in dealing with this incident and wish the injured officer a full and speedy recovery."

The shooting happened in School Lane, Downley, at around 6pm on Friday evening.

Alongside the assaulted officer, who has now been discharged from the hospital, the assaulted man, in his 60s, was also admitted to the hospital.

His injuries, whilst serious, are not life-threatening.

Thames Valley Police arrested one man, who was hospitalised under police supervision with potentially life-changing injuries after being shot by an armed police officer.

Reassuring the public, Mr Barber said: "There is a large police presence in the area as a result but there is no ongoing threat to the wider public.

"Anyone with concerns should speak to a uniformed police officer."

Given this violent incident, Mr Barber urged against groundless speculation and instead, for anyone with information to directly contact Thames Valley Police.

He stated: "I would urge people not to speculate about the incident but if you have any information please contact Thames Valley Police via their website."
