SPORTY students are hoping to bid for the chance to get a 3G football pitch and floodlights built at their school.

Lymm High has teamed up with FA, Football Foundation and Cheshire FA to work on the project.

But they need to raise at least £100,000 to get the plans off the ground and pupils are appealing for help from the community to reach their target.

If successful, the all-weather pitch would also be open to residents.

Students have also been fundraising to improve the school's changing rooms, which must be refurbished to meet the FA's standards.

Head teacher at Lymm High Gwyn Williams said: "This is a fabulous opportunity for the school and one that may not come around again for many years.

"Having such a facility on site would benefit every single student, being used for PE lessons and a wide range of extra-curricular and community sporting activities.

"At the same time, it will be a tremendous asset to the wider community, with the pitch being available to local clubs and groups in the evenings and at weekends.

"Sport is a key part of every child’s education and development and together we can make a truly deep and lasting impact on the school.

"We’re all very excited to see so much enthusiasm for the project so far and look forward to seeing the plans become a reality.

"If anybody is able to help, we would really appreciate their support."
