AWARD winning guitarist Jim Mullen is making his first appearance at the Marlow Jazz Club since their move to the British Legion Hall. Jim will be joined by young Greek musician Vasilis Xenopoulos at the gig on Tuesday, February 5.
Scot Jim has been on the jazz scene since the 1960s, and has worked with names including Malcolm Duncan, Roger Ball, Pete Brown, Brian Auger, Vinegar Joe and Kokomo. He is also an in demand sideman of US stars including Gene Harris, Jimmy Smith, Weldon Irvine, Percy Sledge, Teddy Edwards and Jimmy Witherspoon.
His work with saxophonist Dick Morrissey lasted 15 years, and produced seven albums.
Jim won Best Guitar in the British Telecom Jazz Awards twice during the 1990s, Best Guitar in the Post Office Jazz Awards 2000 and Best Guitar in the Hamlet Cigar British Jazz Awards 2002.
He has recently been working with saxophone player Vasilis Xenopoulos, from Athens, and the duo have just recorded a CD together.
Michael Egleton from the jazz club tells us: "Jim and Vasilis will be accompanied by the resident Frank Toms Trio, and it should ensure one of the most exciting gigs in recent months."
The gig will take place at 8.30pm. Tickets £7. Details: 01628 486571 or www.marlowjazz.co.uk
