A teenager has appeared in court charged with murdering his father.

The body of 49-year-old Michael Onyett was found by police in a house at Cobham Street, Gravesend, at around 8.30pm on December 22.

His jobless son Luke Onyett, aged 18, of Oak Road, Gravesend, was later arrested and charged. He appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Boxing Day and was remanded in custody.

A post-mortem examination revealed Michael Onyett, of Cross Lane East, Gravesend, died from multiple stab wounds.

Cobham Street resident Sally Miller, 27, says she was shocked when police told her a body had been found.

The mother-of-three said: "We didn't hear anything and the first thing we knew about it was when all the police cars turned up.

"It is very worrying something like this has happened here, especially when you are bringing up children in the area."

Luke Onyett re-appeared before Medway magistrates on December 29 and was remanded in custody until Friday, when he will appear at Maidstone Crown Court.

A 47-year-old man was also arrested but later released without charge.
