THE transformation of Warrington Bus Station has continued with the launch of a stunning new exhibition.
The Mayor of Warrington, Clr Linda Dirir, opened Encounters by Volker Krmer on Friday.
Clr Dirir met Gnter Scheib, the Mayor of Hilden, and a delegation from the German town as they unveiled the work of the late journalist and photographer.
The exhibition features around 60 photographs taken by Krmer during his time working for Stern magazine.
Born in Hilden, Krmer came to international fame with his pictures of the violent suppression of the Prague Spring' in 1968. Joining Stern, he photographed hippies in Goa, famines in Sudan and Mujahedins in Afghanistan.
Although he often reported about areas of conflict, these photographs represent only a small part of his portfolio, which varies from the first test tube baby to German swinger clubs.
Speaking of his work, he said: "By moving in the thick of the normal course of life and looking through the lenses of my camera, I see how absurd and partly quizzical things are."
He was assassinated on June 13, 1999, alongside fellow journalist Gabriel Grner and interpreter Senol Alit while reporting on the end of the war in Kosovo.
The exhibition will be on display until November 21.
