Micklefield councillors are hoping changes can be made so a horrific car crash last week, which saw a vehicle carrying a woman and two children plummet 20 feet after crashing through a wall, will “never be repeated”.

East Wycombe Independent councillors Julia Wassell and Matt Knight have visited the crash site in Hunters Hill, Micklefield, a number of times since the accident last Tuesday and they are currently looking into what improvements can be made.

The female driver of the red Citroen made a desperate attempt to stop the car skidding on ice, as she reportedly put both her feet out of the car door to try and slow it down before hitting the wall and falling into a garden below.

Cllr Wassell, who sits on Wycombe District Council and Bucks County Council, said: “It’s a shocking accident and the first I knew of it I read in your newspaper, I came round here straightaway and was astonished by the drop of 20 foot down.

“I kept thinking how brave the lady driver had been to try and stop the car going over the edge - very heroic trying to save her children.

“My job as a county councillor is to get an expert out who knows the technicalities of road safety and get them to do an assessment to try and prevent future accidents.”

Following the crash a number of residents called for the road to be gritted, but Transport for Buckinghamshire said it would be difficult to include the hilly cul-de-sac on their route.

Despite there being a grit bin towards the very top of the road, there is not one closer to where the car skidded.

Cllr Wassell said: “In this case all I can do is personally ensure there is another grit bin closer to this sharp bend, which I have set £150 aside for.

“On Friday I will be meeting a technician in Hunters Hill and two other roads, and I will be asking about the possibility of having a safety barrier put in.

“I also want to think about the rebuilding of the wall, as a layperson I thought the wall would have held but it hasn’t, so if a safety barrier is thought to be needed I will apply for funding.”

She added that she will have to listen to the advice of the experts because other than this horrific crash, there has not been an accident since 1997.

Cllr Wassell will also be looking at what signage and road line changes could be made to Chestnut Avenue, near the junction of where teenager Lloyd Mitchell died in September.
