The chairman of Farnham Common Sports Club has said he would like those responsible ‘to face the consequences of their actions’, after the sports club’s field was damaged.

Richard Thomas revealed to the Bucks Free Press that in the early hours of New Year’s Day, a BMW convertible was seen entering the sports field which is predominantly used by the juniors who play rugby on the grass.

At around 2.40am, the car, which had five people in, was seen driving into the sports club’s car park which has been described by Mr Thomas as a ‘secluded area’.

Two of the five were seen leaving the car before the vehicle made its way to the playing surface, where the driver (who is male) started to do several doughnuts on the premises, where he was accompanied by two women.

The car then left the sports club at around 3am.

Mr Thomas said: “They think they can get away with it and hopefully they’ll face the consequences of their actions.

“It may not be the biggest story, but we’re run by volunteers and our groundsman has worked very hard to fix the damage that has been caused.

“He has removed all the dents, divots and tyre marks but the skid marks on the field from the tyres will be there for a while.

“They did this on New Year’s Day. Didn't they have anything better to do?

“We will also be upgrading our CCTV so that we can get clear pictures if this were to happen again.

“I think the driver might have done this to impress the girls he was with, but all they were doing was being anti-social and reckless, as we spend a lot of money on the pitch.

“It’s very irritating because the pitch costs us a lot of money to maintain.”

A number of people have shared their anger on Facebook with one user saying: "Saw this as I walked the dog this afternoon. Now I know the reason. Not good and I hope they are reprimanded."

Another described those who were in the car as, 'anti-social idiots'.

After seeing the damage that has been caused, the Fareham Common Sports Club posted on Facebook: "There are some very large rugby players who would like to personally wish a Happy New Year to the idiots who drove their car around the sport club fields at 3am on New Year's Day.

"If you recognise anyone in the picture, feel free to contact us and make our day - a free beer is waiting!"
