The two-sides met at the Copper Box Arena in Birmingham with Porter grabbing two goals as Buckingham defeated the Greater Manchester side 4-3 in the final.

Buckingham were few people’s pick for the title having qualified in fourth-place for finals day, despite having lost only once, to Bowdon Hightown, during the indoor premier league season.

But there was nothing lucky about their triumph, as they first beat East Grinstead 5-4 in a thrilling semi-final, before gaining their revenge over Bowdon 4-3 in a nail-biting final.

Bowdon also had an Olympic gold medallist in Sam Quek in their line-up, but Buckingham powered on to win.

And with two goals in the final, Porter cemented her position as Buckingham’s leading scorer throughout the indoor season, and she will be hoping to continue that form as her attention turns to the completion of the outdoor season, with Buckingham currently in fourth place in the Investec Women’s Hockey Premier League.

Beyond that, their reward for Sunday’s triumph is that Buckingham will represent England in the European Hockey indoor club championships next year.
