A 55-year-old cyclist has raised thousands for charity after cycling 2,021 miles during the summer.
Tony Hubbard, from Chalfont St Peter, took on the challenge to raise £2,021 for the Chiltern Samaritans, based in Amersham, “in its greatest hour of need” and after the charity was unable to hold its annual cycle ride due to the pandemic.
He wrote on his fundraising page: “Following such a difficult year with many of us suffering from mental health issues, I felt it only appropriate that I support this charity in its greatest hour of need to help everyone when there is no one left to turn to.
“Chiltern Samaritans are there day and night, for anyone who’s struggling to cope and who needs someone to listen without judgment or pressure.”
He added: “This year and last, they were unable to hold their Chiltern Samaritan Cycle Ride due to Covid-19. It’s a very important fundraiser, raising 50-60 per cent of their annual costs, so I decided I’d like to support them this summer.”
The financial services worker and businessman has already met his target of £2,021. He said he tries to cycle a minimum of 55 miles on weekdays before work, leaving at 5.30am and coming back in time for his first meeting.

Julie Kenwright, support volunteer at the Chiltern Samaritans, said: “The Samaritans branch in Amersham is manned by trained volunteers 365 days a year, taking calls from those in need.
“As you can imagine, demand is even higher during these challenging times. The branch has annual property running costs and Tony’s fundraising will truly help us to stay open to help those who need to talk.”
