A teenager who attends the Chalfont Community College has released a poem about her experiences of verbal abuse and cyberbullying.

16-year-old Lydia Alty, who is a member of the Diana Award's National Anti-Bullying Youth Board, published the video on her YouTube page on Friday, June 18 titled ‘Kindness is a Gift’ to her 2,000 subscribers.

The poem was accompanied with a Just Giving page with all the money raised going to the Diana Award, which will help people across the country who are currently being bulled.

An excerpt from the page reads: “I think it is really important for children and adults to spread kindness to everyone and let people be them by accepting them in games and activities.

“Not only that to accept people no matter their gender, who they see themselves as or looks.

“This is why I wrote this poem.

“I hope to inspire people to be kind and go the extra mile to make sure someone can feel happy with themselves and be confident with being them!”

Lydia’s poem

Many people have always told me that kindness isn’t important

But, here is a message to people young and old

How do you get a job, without being kind?

How do you get an interview for a job, without being kind?

How do you make friends, without being kind?

How do you get successful, without being kind?

You can’t get rid of them, without being kind

If you could put a person in a box and see which one rocks which one would you choose?

Would it be the boy playing football?

Maybe the girl who hangs around with the popular children?

Maybe the girl who plays football?

Or maybe a boy that does ballet or swims?

We are all very judgemental and we need to stop being judgemental and start to be uncritical

Accept others for who they want to be

After all, if your friend was being attacked, you would help them, right?

What if someone who wasn’t your friend was hurt and stuck really tight, would you help them and watch them get hurt?

Be an upstander and not a bystander, accept others and remember, you can’t get anywhere without kindness.
