A driver has been arrested following a two-car smash near Milton Keynes.

In the late hours of Wednesday, July 21, the emergency services were called out after there were reports of an accident on the H5 Portway Lodge Lake, where a car had crashed into a motorist, before hitting the bridge safety barrier.

The driver, who was allegedly at fault, had reportedly been drinking and had ‘failed a drug wipe showing presence of drugs’, according to Thames Valley Police Roads Policing.

TVP Roads Policing added: “We attended a two vehicle collision on the H5 Portway Lodge Lake overbridge last night [July 21] where a car travelling at speed crashed into an innocent motorist and then directly impacted the bridge safety barrier.

“The driver at fault had been drinking and failed a drug wipe showing presence of drugs.

“The driver was arrested with a specimen of blood taken for analysis.

“If the results show the driver is over the limit, they face a driving ban in addition to the insurance claim for damaging the safety barrier.

“Amazingly no one was injured in this collision, but the dangers of driving after a drink or taking drugs cannot be underestimated.

“We will deal with you robustly to protect our communities.”
