Plans to build a new boathouse on the River Thames for local Marlow schools have resurfaced.

The boathouse, in Gossmore Park near the A404, would provide somewhere for rowers at Sir William Borlase’s and Great Marlow School to store their equipment.

The new plans also reveal that RGS High Wycombe would use the boathouse with students arriving by minibus.

The application was initially submitted to Wycombe District Council by the Marlow and District Schools Boathouse Trust in August 2017, with a decision expected to be made that November.

However, the plans came to nothing as the proposals received dozens of objections, with residents concerned about the traffic and parking issues the development could cause.

In March 2020, Great Marlow School hosted an exhibition to show off revised plans for the potential new boathouse.

At the time, Mr Murison said: “From the advice, we have got from the planning department is that they like the plans so I think this has every chance of success.

“Both schools have very active rowing clubs, and this is a huge cost to the boat clubs due to the deterioration of the fleets after they are left outdoors all the time.

“We had to have a huge fundraising campaign over the summer to replace all the boats, and this is an expensive burden on both clubs.

“But having our own permanent boathouse at our own base will give us more security and our boats will be looked after better.”

The country then went into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic and since then talk surrounding the plans went quiet.

Now a new planning application has been submitted outlining the same plans to build the boathouse.
