Chesham United’s recent home league match against Merthyr Town was abandoned following a serious injury to one of their players.

Jake Peck, who was once on the books at Luton Town, injured his ankle in the Generals’ fixture against the Welsh side on September 24 at the Meadow.

With the score at 0-0, Peck and a Merthyr player went in for a challenge on 19 minutes and the former immediately called for help in the aftermath of the tackle.

Some of his teammates also alerted both sets of medical staff who ran onto the pitch to help the stricken and distressed 22-year-old.

The referee decided to take the players back to the dressing room and after just 19 minutes of play, the game was officially called off not long gone 4pm.

In a statement published on Twitter, Chesham said: "Today's [September 24] match vs Merthyr Town has unfortunately been abandoned due to a serious injury to a player.

"Unfortunately, today's [September 24] game was abandoned due to a serious injury sustained by Jake Peck.

"Jake is now on his way to hospital and everyone at Chesham United wishes Jake all the best and a speedy recovery.

"The club would like to pass on our thanks to Merthyr Town physio Kevin Brain for all his assistance.

"Thank you also to our club volunteers and stewards who stayed to assist our physio Matt Loomes until Jake was taken to hospital."

A source close to the club told the Bucks Free Press that the injury was so ‘horrific’ and that Peck’s ankle was ‘facing the other way – a complete 180° turn.’

The source also revealed that both sets of physios were 'white as a ghost' after seeing the injury, and that the ex-Luton Town man had to wait THREE HOURS for an ambulance to arrive from when the initial incident took place.

This was due to a ‘serious road traffic collision’ along the A413 in Great Missenden where two motorcycles and a van were involved.

The closure, which was on Link Road, meant the emergency services were forced to take alternative routes to help the injured footballer.
