ANGRY residents have hit out at the 'thousands' of plastic gloves found strewn across the road close to a petrol station in Marlow.

Members of the volunteer litter-picking group Marlow Wombles reported the large amounts of plastic gloves reportedly littering the area outside the Shell Petrol station on Maple Rise.

The group say the litter had blown across from the petrol station to the front of Foxes Piece school, on the opposite side of the road.

Marlow Wombles member, Alison Edwards, wrote on Facebook: "The pavement along the A4155 next to Foxes Piece School is covered with plastic gloves which have blown from the Shell petrol station.

"We picked up over 1000 gloves, paper towels and plenty of other waste plastic. Regrettably, staff at Shell told me they had no time to collect waste and weren't allowed to cross the road to do it."

Alison said the litter was found along hedgerow stretching 3ft long in front of Foxes Piece School.

She added that in the following three days, she collected 22 more gloves and seven paper towels, all of which had been blown over the road from the garage to the school fence.

It's not the first time Shell has come under fire for their disposable glove policy.

Residents in Derbyshire and London have previously expressed concern about the environmental costs of large-scale plastic glove littering.

Shell does provide bins on-site but discarded plastic gloves continue to be a concern across UK communities.

A Shell spokesperson said: "We are aware of this complaint. The dealer has increased the frequency with which bins containing the plastic gloves are emptied."
