The Ultra Low Emission Zone is coming close to Buckinghamshire border in the summer, including its scheme to help motorists struggling with the extra costs.

If the expansion of ULEZ goes ahead from August 29, motorists driving in the zone in Greater London will have to pay the £12.50 daily charge if their vehicles doesn't meet the ULEZ emission standards.

Drivers with vehicles which fall short of the emission standards will have to shoulder the cost, sell or scrap their cars under the scheme launched by the London Mayor Sadiq Khan – if they are eligible.

Although Buckinghamshire drivers going to London will not be eligible to get cash for their old car, their friends and family living in the capital could be.

Petrol vehicles that are more than 16-years-old and diesel vehicles aged six years and over are likely to fall short of the ULEZ emission standards.

Money from the ULEZ will be used to improve London’s transport networks, including buses, to reduce air pollution.

The ULEZ expansion was challenged by five Conservative-led London boroughs unhappy with the plans, including Buckinghamshire neighbour Hillingdon.

Their challenge is due to be heard in the High Court.

Wycombe MP Steve Baker commented: "Khan has ignored the results of his own consultation and wide opposition to his ULEZ expansion.

"I have no doubt that he will, alas, ignore the concerns of Bucks residents who commute into London. I know that my Conservative colleagues in the London Assembly are working hard to try to block the ULEZ expansion, and they have my full support."

How the scrappage scheme works?

The £110 million scrappage scheme is designed to help Londoners on low incomes or living with a disability, small businesses and sole traders and charities to scrap or retrofit vehicles with money grants.

This includes cars, motorcycles, vans and minibuses.

Drivers wanting to apply for a grant will need to live in one of London’s 32 boroughs or City of London, be a recipient of a low-income or disability benefit.

Those scrapping their car could receive up to £2,000 in cash or choose less money and a bus and tram pass for 12 months.

Motorcycle or moped scrapping could give the owners up to £1,000 or a combination of less money and a bus and tram pass.

Slough MP Tan Desi has called for his constituents to be included in the scrappage scheme.

Mr Baker said: "Sadiq Khan must stop his money grab by scrapping this unnecessary ULEZ expansion. Constituents in Wycombe have contacted me to make clear that working people here cannot absorb these costs.”

“The ULEZ scrappage scheme piles up yet more public expense on top of the extortionate costs he will be inflicting on hardworking families.”
