A great-grandfather who is currently being treated for lung cancer has won £30,000 in the Postcode Lottery within Buckinghamshire.

Francis King, 79, who is going to have one of his lungs removed due to the illness, won the jackpot along with his neighbour, Donna Allen, 49 on Saturday, April 29.

The two currently live in Upper Winchendon within the county, and Francis is still coming to terms with his victory.

He said: “We’ve never seen this sort of money before.

“It’s by far the best pain relief.

“I can’t believe it - I can’t get my head around it.”

The victory comes just weeks before Francis is due to have major surgery for the second time in 12 months following his cancer diagnosis.

In the spring of last year, he had part of his left lung removed, but confirmed that the tumour had returned.

He will now need to have the whole organ taken out, but stated that the financial winnings can ‘take away some of the worries’.

Additionally, the 79-year-old and his wife, Patricia, have revealed what they plan to do with the majority of their prize money.

He explained: “They removed the bottom half of my left lung, but the cancer has come back, so I’ve got to go in again and have the whole lung removed.

“This takes away some of the worries for different things like doing the garden – so we can pay somebody now.”

Patrica added: “We’re big Elvis fans and we’ve been to Graceland [in Tennessee] once before, but we’ve always said we’d love to go back, and £30,000 means we could do it.

“We’ve never had anything like this sort of money before, the most I’ve won is £77 on a scratch card.

“We can celebrate with a bottle of champers, not cheap old wine.

“But before we do, we’ll tell our family what’s just happened - they’ll be shocked as we are.”

They weren’t the only winners in Upper Winchendon within Aylesbury Vale as their 49-year-old neighbour, Donna Allen, also won £30,000.

She said: “It’s unbelievable.

"I’m still speechless which doesn’t happen often – trust me.

"I think a holiday is in order – we’re suckers for Cornwall, so we’ll be going there.

“It’s a beautiful drive, and we won’t need to worry about the car breaking down now.”
