Numerous residents and businesses across a Buckinghamshire village were left without electricity following a sudden power cut.

Occupants living across Holmer Green and parts of Hazlemere experienced the outage at around 6.15pm on Monday, October 16, with the outrage described as ‘unplanned’ by the UK Power Networks.

One resident, who had just done their weekly shop, told the Free Press: “You can’t make it up.

“I’ve not long gone and bought a lot of frozen food only for the power to go off, and we don’t know when it’ll come back on.

“Hopefully it’ll be back up soon as it’ll be a waste of money and food, and I hate wasting food.

“It’s not ideal in the slightest.”

The outrage also caused problems for some of Holmer Green’s eateries such as the village’s kebab shop, and fish and chip shop.

The Holmer Green Kebab Shop and the South Hill Fish & Chip Shop, both situated on Turners Place, were eerily blacked out during peak times for both establishments.

A worker from the latter, which also serves Chinese food, said: “There’s not a lot we can do as the power is out.”

Residents were then notified that power was due to be turned back on between 9pm and 10pm, but it returned to normal at roughly 8pm.

The same worker from the chip shop then added: “We close at 9pm and our peak times are between five and seven.

“So with the power coming back for around eight, most of our customers had already eaten and we couldn’t keep all the food we had out.

“It’s a shame but these things happen.”

The cause of the power cut is not known.
