A Remembrance Day cypher has been created in a small Buckinghamshire village ahead of Armistice Day.

Located in Wooburn Green near Bourne End, the 100-foot poppy was designed and painted by local groundskeeper and contracts manager at Groundtel, Danny Perkins, who admitted that the project was ‘something to give back to the community’.

Taking roughly three hours to complete, Danny drew the design on the tablet before programming his outlines into a robot, which would then draw out the shape requested.

Once completed, the groundskeeper, who is originally from Pinner, would then spray paint the necessary gaps.

He told the Free Press: “We have the technology now to create templates on tablets and put them into robots which will draw out our designs.

“It can be catered to any type of event and with Remembrance Day coming up, I approached Wooburn Green Parish Council about creating a cypher to honour those who fought for us.

“They were more than happy for me to draw one on and for me, this is something to give back to the community.

“I have lived on the Green for eight years now and the people have been great.

“They are very kind and friendly so I was happy to do it.”

It’s not the first cypher that has been painted in the village by Danny, who created one following the Queen’s death in 2022, and the King’s coronation in 2023.

He has also designed a similar cypher in neighbouring Henley in Oxfordshire.

He continued: “We are a family-run business where we look after 150 schools across four boroughs, so the bulk of our business is working on running tracks, football pitches, rugby pitches and this is a project that doesn’t take a lot of time and is important to the people who live here.

“I’ve had a lot of positive feedback as I did it for the King’s coronation, and this is across a lot of towns.”
