A resident in a Buckinghamshire town said she is concerned about the dangers of a leaking water pipe on her road that has been reported 'numerous times' to no avail.

Pippa Darby, 35, who lives in Sheraton Drive, High Wycombe, has been aware of a leaking water pipe on her street for over a year.

She has reported it to Thames Water and Buckinghamshire Council "numerous times" to no avail and her frustration intensified when the water company fixed a new leak that had sprung up in the area last week, whilst failing to tackle its longer-term counterpart.

Pippa, who shares her concern with her neighbour Jo Fox, 41, said: "This leak has been an issue for as long as we have lived here, and in the winter it turns the street into an ice rink.

"There's always a lot of water on the road which affects its structure and creates more potholes. My son walked through it recently and it filled up his wellies in seconds."

She said the leak was also impacting a nearby footpath near Amersham Road frequently used by students at the Royal Grammar School, with waterlogged ground increasing the risk of accidents along the stretch.

A spokesperson for Thames Water apologised to Pippa, Jo and other residents on Sheraton Drive and Arnison Avenue yesterday (January 23) for the leak, which they said had been traced to a broken pipe in the area.

They added: "Due to (the pipe's) location, traffic management measures are required so we can carry out the repair safely. This requires a permit from the local authority and our teams are working behind the scenes to secure this so we can carry out the work at the earliest opportunity.

"We have 200 repair teams working tirelessly to fix leaks with activity taking place seven days a week and over 280 people working round the clock and mainly overnight to detect leaks not yet appearing at ground level."

Steven Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport at Buckinghamshire Council said: "An issue with a leaking pipe would need to be reported to the relevant water company for them to investigate and deal with.

"If road surfaces become icy, we can install warning signs and if significantly dangerous we can close the road for safety. We would ask that any issues of this nature are reported via Fix My Street and our crews will investigate."
