A large Copper Beech tree will be felled this week over public safety fears.
The landmark Copper Beech tree in Rookery Gardens, Marlow, will be cut down on Thursday, February 29, according to a tree removal notice.
Buckinghamshire Council scheduled the tree felling back in the autumn after learning that the Copper Beech had become infected with Giant polypore (Meripilus giganteus), a fungus that can cause uprooting and stem damage.
A spokesperson for the local authority said the fungus posed a potential risk to public safety, necessitating the felling action.

However, the council's first attempt to cut the tree down on November 14, 2023, was met with "unexpected challenges", leading to the work's postponement until this week.
A replacement tree will reportedly be planted in the Copper Beech's place.
