This season has seen Wycombe Wanderers enjoy some of its highest home crowds in recent years.

High attendances have not been uncommon at Adams Park, and it’s expected to be another big crowd when Sheffield Wednesday come to town on April 23.

So, to get us in the mood before the Owls fly over, let us look back at the highest home crowds over the last 10 seasons.

2021/22: Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 Plymouth Argyle (8,181)

A fixture that is VERY fresh in the mind, the highest home crowd so far this season was recorded against Plymouth Argyle on Good Friday [April 15].

The ground was packed out, especially in the away end, as the Chairboys defeated the Pilgrims 2-0 thanks to a Garath McCleary double.

The game also saw Wanderers wear unique one-off blue and yellow kits to help those struggling in the ongoing war in Ukraine, with the fixture being dedicated to for Wycombe captain, Matt Bloomfield.

The 38-year-old retired in February after 18-and-a-half-years at the club.

Will this number be beaten on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday?

2020/21: Wycombe Wanderers 1-2 Coventry City (2,000)

For the first time in modern history, a super-spreading virus caused worldwide panic as millions of people across the globe lost their lives through Covid-19.

Everything we knew and did was halted as life was on pause.

This meant that Wanderers’ first season in the second tier of English football was not witnessed by many supporters, but thankfully, a crowd of 2,000 people were allowed in at Adams Park to watch Wycombe’s 2-1 home defeat against Coventry City.

This FA Cup third round tie saw Non League Stourbridge visit Adams Park as they tried to knock the then League Two side out of the competition.

Aston Villa, who were runners up in the competition in 2015 as they lost 4-0 in the final to Arsenal, took a strong squad to Adams Park but in front of nearly 9,300 fans, they couldn’t break down a stubborn Wanderers defence, as the tie finished 1-1.

To date, it’s Wycombe’s highest attended crowd in the last 10 years.

2014/15: Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Plymouth Argyle (7,750)

Wycombe booked their place in the 2015 League Two play-off final as they defeated Plymouth Argyle 2-1 in the second leg of the semi-final, winning 5-3 on aggregate.

First-half goals from Paul Hayes and Alfie Mawson saw the Chairboys progress into the showpiece where they narrowly lost out to Southend United in the final, 7-6 on penalties.

The great escape season saw just over 7,000 people visit Adams Park when Northampton came to town which was their penultimate home match of the season.
