Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield has praised his opposite number Derek Adams ahead of this weekend’s match against Morecambe.

The two will meet for the first time in the dugout as managers, with the 39-year-old admitting he has a lot of ‘respect’ for the 47-year-old.

So far in his managerial career, Adams has won promotions with Plymouth Argyle in 2017 and with Morecambe in 2021, along with two at Ross County back in 2008 and 2012 respectively.

Bloomfield said: “Derek Adams has been around the game for numerous years, so he knows how to win games.

“One thing we’ve done in the last few years is that we like to trap the opposition fast.

"We try and lay our imprint on the game, and I don’t want that to change just because the manager has changed.

“Since we’ve been back, we’ve scored early on and attacked from the off, and that’s what I want.

“Of course, that isn’t always going to happen as it’s not a guarantee, but I want us to be positive in everything we try and do.

“On Derek, he is someone who I respect.

“He has had a good career in the game both as a player and as a manager.

"He got Morecambe promoted, had a spell at Bradford, then came back and his promotion a couple of years ago was a terrific achievement.”

After the Morecambe match, Wanderers will once again hit the road three days later for a midweek clash against another relegation-threatened team in Cambridge United, but the manager has admitted he hasn’t thought that far ahead.

He said: “I haven’t even given Cambridge a thought to be honest...my mind has been on Morecambe.

“Of course, to have back-to-back away games isn’t easy as back-to-back home games due to the travelling, but, it’s the game we’re in and it’s not a problem for us as we just need to get on with it.

“This isn’t a time to make excuses, this is a time to get up and get on with it.”
