Gerrards Cross will be seen through history
AMATEUR photographers have captured images of Gerrards Cross to put together an archive of the area.
The recent pictures taken for the Chiltern Society PhotoGroup include many listed buildings as well as the recent building of the Tesco store.
Quiller Barrett, Editor, Chiltern Photos said: “I edit the photographic website of about five or six thousand pictures which have been taken in the Chilterns.
“Gerrards Cross is a good example of some of the work we have done to archive images of places in the area.
“The pictures are mostly of buildings, the idea is to put these on the website so that in 20, 30, 40 years people can look back at what is used to look like.
“They can look back and say ‘there was only one Tesco in Gerrards Cross back then’.”
The groups archive currently contains over 6,400 photographs representing around 190 searchable locations in the Chilterns.
Many photos come from members' outings, but most are from volunteers undertaking specific projects.
There are also 26 albums in the Special Collections section, covering a cross-section of Chiltern life and activities.
