A TRIO of students are hoping to hitch-hike their way across the continent in a bid to raise money for charity.

Keshia Saunders, 22, Silke Cannon-Young, 21, and Luke Cooper, 19, left their High Wycombe base this morning, as they bid to catch a ride to Croatia for a hiker’s party on April 23 to celebrate their achievement.

The Buckinghamshire New University students have raised about £900 between them for the Link Community Development charity – which aims to improve the quality of education for children in Africa.

To add to the challenge, the trio have only just met, have never hitch-hiked before and Luke has never before been abroad.

Miss Saunders said: “I love going to new countries but I’ve never travelled like this before. I’ve certainly never hitched a lift.

“I’ve only been on a week-long holiday so it will be a little strange, and Luke has never been abroad so it should be interesting and exciting.

“Silke is on my course but, as it’s so big, we had never met so it came about via Facebook. Luke was also looking for people to do the challenge with, so it all just came together.”
