Rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave will be inducted into the Bucks and Milton Keynes Sporting Hall of Fame at a glittering awards ceremony next month.

Sir Steve, from Marlow Bottom, who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000, will take centre stage at the 11th awards ceremony at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on November 18.

The rowing star will join a host of other Marlow organisations at the awards ceremony, including his former school, Great Marlow School, which has been shortlisted in the secondary school of the year category.

Marlow Tennis Club has also been shortlisted for club of the year, while Liz Hutton from Bourne End Junior Sports Club has been nominated for the Terry Cook Unsung Hero of the year award.

Bucks Fire and Rescue Service and Wycombe Leisure Centre will also go head to head in the active workplace of the year category.

Mark Ormerod, Director of Leap – the Sport and Activity Partnership organising the ceremony – said: “Each year, 250 people converge on The Waterside Theatre to honour the unselfish work of the men and women who make grassroots sport happen for everyone in Bucks and Milton Keynes.

“We are thrilled with the response to this year’s request for nominations and we have ten very strong categories, all packed with people and organisations who are the lifeblood of local sport.

“However, we also believe it’s fitting to use this awards evening to recognise the incredible career of Sir Steve, a true born and bred local hero who is an inspiration to everyone involved in sport.”
