The daughter of a late district councillor has been elected in her mother’s seat - but as a representative of a different party.

Conservative Julie Cook is the new district councillor for the Amersham Town ward after she won last week's election with a majority of 50 per cent of the vote.

Ms Cook's 489 votes were enough to take the seat ahead of Lib Dem candidate Richard Williams (354 votes), UKIP's Richard Phoenix (67 votes) and Labour's Robin Walters (64 votes).

Ms Cook is the eldest daughter of Davida Allen, a Liberal Democrat district councillor who passed away suddenly on Thursday November 5 aged 76.

In a statement prior to the election, Ms Cook said: “My late mothers work was dedicated to the preservation of the local area and in its sustainability.

“I pledge to work for our very special town and to preserve the integrity of Amersham now and in the future."

Residents went to the polls Thursday February 18 with a total of 974 votes being registered which represented a turnout of 28.4 per cent.
