Travellers have set up camp in a field in Beaconsfield after arriving yesterday afternoon.

Residents in nearby South Drive said the group moved into the field at around 4pm on Tuesday.

There are currently nine caravans on the site.

Robb Garlick, who has lived in South Drive for 15 years, said he had no issue with the travellers being in the field next to his house.

He said: "They turned up late yesterday afternoon around 4pm, I wasn't in at the time. I understand that they broke the lock to get in there. The council and the police are aware.

"In principle, I have no objection to them being here, as long as they keep the place clean and tidy.

"They haven't been causing any problems, but I would like them to move one of their caravans about 50 yards because I can see one of them from my kitchen window."

A spokesman for the land owners, Hall Barn Estates, said they were aware that travellers had pitched up in their field and had been in contact with police.

He said: "We informed the police and they attended the site last night. We are awaiting a decision from them now, we have done all we can.

"The field was secure, but they had broken a lock and chain to get into it.

"We have had issues here before, but it is an endemic problem across the county, not just in Beaconsfield."

More information as we get it.
