A school in Beaconsfield has welcomed a new headteacher this month.

Davenies Preparatory School in Station Road has appointed Carl Rycroft as headteacher following the departure of Craig Watson, who was head of the school for nine years before moving to another preparatory school in Reading.

The panel of governors unanimously chose Mr Rycroft to take the reins at the boys’ prep day school for his ‘passion for leading and teaching’ and his ‘energy and vision’.

Mr Rycroft said he was ‘absolutely delighted’ at taking on the role.

He said: “It is a wonderful School with a positive learning environment and a warm welcoming atmosphere.

“I very much look forward to building on the strong foundations that Craig Watson has laid over the last nine years, and leading Davenies, with its committed staff and happy, enthusiastic pupils, to an exciting future.”

Mr Rycroft was previously the headmaster of Barnard Castle Preparatory School for six years and has also working with the Rugby Football Union as a youth development officer.

Chairman of Governors Scott Dodds said: “We know that Carl will be a tremendous asset to the School and will be able to build upon Craig Watson’s significant legacy.

“We look forward to welcoming Carl and his family into our community and are excited about the future ahead.”

September is a busy month for the school, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

Year 3 and Year 4 pupils are set to move into a new state of the art school building named the Jubilee Building in honour of the special milestone.
