At least 50 volunteers will be donning their litter picking gear tomorrow to rid Beaconsfield of rubbish as part of a nationwide clean-up campaign in preparation for Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday, which is officially celebrated in June.

The Beaconsfield Society, 4th Beaconsfield Scouts, Beaconsfield Town Council, 1st Holtspur Scouts, 3rd Holtspur Guides, Beaconsfield Guides, Beaconsfield Old Town Residents Association (BOTRA), Vision for Beaconsfield and the WI have all agreed to take part in the ‘Clean for the Queen’ event, which starts on Saturday at 1pm at the town hall.

A number of ‘grot spots’ across the town have already been selected by residents after The Beaconsfield Society called for nominations of the areas that needed a clean most, including the footpath between Malthouse Square and London End, the grass verges opposite Beaconsfield Cricket Club on the A40, the lay-bys between the M40 and the Pyebush roundabout and grass verges on the Amersham Road.

At least 25 businesses across the town have also promised to tidy up the pavements in front of their shops, as well as any access roads.

As well as co-ordinating the event, The Beaconsfield Society has been busy sprucing up post-boxes across the town, including ones on Holtspur Top Lane and Cambridge Road.

The town council green will be used by volunteers on the day as a “focal point” to put all the litter collected throughout the town.

Any volunteers who are interested in taking part tomorrow are encouraged to bring sturdy gloves as there will only be a limited amount available to borrow on the day.
