A council officer televised climbing the stairs of County Hall on the BBC last month to promote the authority is also celebrating climbing the ladder of success after being named as a rising star in a prestigious national scheme.

Liz Fisher, 29, of Buckinghamshire County Council, has been recognised by the Institute of Internal Communications as one of their ‘Under 30s for 2015’.

And she was the only local authority worker singled out in the initiative aimed at honouring 30 under 30 communication professionals who are “really making a difference in their jobs”.

Liz said: “I am totally chuffed. I’m really looking forward to working with fellow professionals and sharing ideas. As the only representative from a local authority, it’s going to be great to see how we do things in the different sectors and learn from each other.”

The former PE teacher, who has worked for the County Council for three years, is responsible for getting key messages to its 2,500 staff.

The IOIC, in its citation, said: “Liz is enthusiastic and has the creativity to bring communications channels to life. She has a high level of understanding about measurement and demonstrates this to good effect."

In January, she showed helped organise a news item for BBC TV which featured the Council’s commitment to the Workplace Challenge, an initiative aimed at helping staff to stay fitter and healthier.

Liz was interviewed showing the ‘steps challenge’ at County Hall, which encourages workers to take the stairs rather than the lift.

Sarah Ashmead, director of Strategy & Policy at the County Council, said: “We are thrilled that Liz has been recognised in this manner. She thoroughly deserves this. Communicating well with your own staff is key to the success of any organisation and Buckinghamshire County Council is fortunate to have someone with Liz’s skills to do this.”
