A south Bucks charity that helps people with mobility problems to get out and about, is appealing for drivers to cope with growing demand.

Chilterns Dial-a-Ride in Latimer Park, Chesham, offers transport services to vulnerable people who are unable to get around. It currently has around five paid and 20 volunteer drivers.

Chairman David Ouvry said that with more than 1,100 passenger journeys a month, the charity needs more help to keep up its services.

He said: “We badly need more people to give some of their time to assist us in keeping pace with the steadily rising demand.”

Volunteer driver Michael Penton, 67, from Chesham, says he got involved after he and his wife received help from the charity when she was in need of care.

He said: “I wanted to give something back to the community. There came a time when I had more time on my hands, and now I spend a couple of days a week driving with CDAR – it is both fulfilling and profoundly satisfying.”

The service covers the Chiltern, Wycombe and South Bucks districts. To get involved call 01494 766123.
