John Hampden Grammar School teachers and students are celebrating the schools latest A-Level results – the second best in their history.

Assistant headmaster Andy Wright said: “The schools top grades are up, second highest ever with 75 per cent A* to B and given the drop in the top grades on a national level we’re extremely pleased.

“The boys worked extremely hard and have now got in to some really good universities, which is thoroughly deserved.”

There were also a number of stand-out results, with a number of students now going to their preferred universities.

Jaspal Thandi has now had an offer to attend Cambridge after receiving one of the best Mathematics grades in the country and finishing with three A*s and two As.

The 18-year-old said: “I was quite surprised. I woke up this morning and read all of the newspapers about some of the problems, but I’ve got this and I’m over the moon it really is wonderful.

“Two years has flown by and I think all the work has really paid off.”

And Matthew Kite from Flackwell Heath will also be going to Cambridge after claiming 4 A* grades.

He said: “Cambridge was the aim, I didn’t think it would be quite four A*s, but I’m really pleased with it.”
