A tragic traveller with links to south Buckinghamshire has been found dead in Peru, almost two weeks after he went on a solo mountain trek.

The body of furniture maker Harry Greaves – who learnt his trade in High Wycombe – was discovered yesterday at the bottom of a 40-metre crevasse, his family has confirmed.

The 29-year-old was last seen on April 7 – two days before his 29th birthday – telling friends he would return to their home three days later.

A panicked search of the mountain and area he was last seen has been carried out over the last week, with his body finally being discovered yesterday.

Mr Greaves, who runs Marcher Furniture, learnt his trade in High Wycombe's Stewart Linford traditional cabinet workshop in 2012 and later worked alone on bespoke commissions out of the Bucks New University workshops, according to his blog.

Yesterday, just hours before the sad news was revealed, colleagues at the former Cressex workshop described his as “lovely” and “likeable”.

Following a worldwide fundraising campaign to boost the search in Peru, family of Mr Greaves announced last night that their "dearest Harry" has been found.

They said: “It is with great sadness that we announce that his smile will no longer give such light, he will no longer give calm through his touch, and wisdom through his words.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped us find our beloved Harry. His spirit will always be with us.”

Fears over Mr Greaves’ health and wellbeing grew in the last few days following his disappearance, with the Lucie Blackman Trust website launching a worldwide appeal.

According to the trust’s website, Mr Greaves – who now lives in Shropshire – flew to Peru on February 20, and met with friends in Pisac, near Coscou.

On Thursday, April 7, he told friends he wished to spend the day by himself on a mountain and was expected to return three days later – but was never seen again.
